CHRIS KELLY - Photography

I first enjoyed seeing the northern lights while I lived in southern Alberta. Soon after, my work took me to Canada's Great White North in the Northwest Territories. It was in the territories that I saw the most awe-inspiring displays from some pretty amazing and isolated locations in the north. I taught myself how to photograph the northern lights; experimenting before finally investing in the proper equipment needed to truly capture their beauty. I moved to the Northwest Territories in 2012 and have lived in Lutsel K'e, Fort McPherson and Tuktoyaktuk.

My time in the north ended in 2019 as I moved back to my home province of Nova Scotia. Although northern lights can be seen as far south as Nova Scotia it is rare, but the chance of the weather cooperating is another can of worms. I will continue my landscape work, but needed another subject to supplement my northern lights photography. I decided to aim towards macro work (or extreme macro) one subject that always caught my eye were snowflakes! I have finally built up my gear to shoot this amazingly beautiful, but small subject. I'm not sure why I always seem to pick content that takes me into the cold!
